The type of network interface card you buy largely depends upon the LAN and cabling you already have in place. You generally want to use the same type of network interface card that the other PCs on the LAN are using.
If you are not sure, check with a fellow PC user, or your network administrator if you have one. They should be able to tell you what type of card to buy.
